Get ready, the Battle of Alberta is heading outdoors!
The matchup between the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers will be played at Commonwealth Stadium on Sunday, October 29.
Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic celebrates the 20-year anniversary of the League’s first regular-season outdoor game, which also was held at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, home of the CFL’s Edmonton Elks.
It’ll be the third outdoor game for each franchise, with both the Flames and Oilers having played the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets in previous editions of the Heritage Classic.
On November 22, 2003 – the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Oilers, 4-3, in front of 57,167 fans in -19 weather.
Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was on hand at Commonwealth to speak to the media about the game on October 29.
The NHL say’s in addition to more tickets being released soon, musical guests will also be announced in the leadup to the game.
