After someone passed away due to the extreme cold, one Edmonton City Councillors decided to push 24 LRT Stations
After someone passed away due to the extreme cold weather in Edmonton, a city councillor expressed his thoughts on having LRT stations open 24 hours a day in case people needed a warm shelter.
Aaron Paquette brought the motion forward on Tuesday, the motion was favored by council.
Now, Paquette says the new challenge is expanding to other LRT stations besides the Central location to cover more of the city.
Paquette added the community has been tremendous strides in rallying together to help out the less fortunate as many are stopping by with hot chocolate, sandwiches and pizza.
In Edmonton, rougly 1900 people are considered homeless and there are just over 700 shelter spaces available, which are close to 90% full at this time.
