Alberta Drum group organizing T-shirt campaign in support of Navajo Nation

For every T-shirt sold, Young Spirit Supplies will send 5 medical grade masks to the Navajo Nation Department of Health

Jacob Faithful, founder of Grammy-nominated drum group Young Spirit, joined Windspeaker Radio to talk about the T-Shirt Campaign

Jacob Faithful is part of Young Spirit, a Grammy-nominated drumming group that sings in Plains Cree and has members throughout Canada and Western U.S.

Recently, Faithful found out that a group member, who wishes to remain anonymous, had tested positive for COVID-19 along with his partner, step children and in-laws in Arizona.

Wanting to help out,  Jacob and other members of the group decided to put together a t-shirt campaign.

Faithful reached out to Navajo artist Craig George and commissioned a piece to be printed on T-shirts. For each shirt sold, Faithful is sending five protective masks to the Navajo Nation.

Navajo Nation is located on the border of four American states. It’s been one of the country's hardest-hit spots by the virus.

The shirts feature a drawing by Navajo painter Craig George,  the back reads "#YS4Dinetah," which expresses the group's support for the Navajo people.
