Depending on weather, and if the road is safe and accessible, the road to Fort Chipewyan could open as early as December 15.
At the start of the ice road season, It’s expected light traffic of 5,000 kg or lower will be the only ones allowed on the road.
Load limits will rise throughout the winter based on the weather and maintenance work being done.
The RMWB is reminding motorist to avoid using the route before it opens as it can potentially put you and others at risk of a serious incident.
There are no regular services on the road such as gas stations and cell phone coverage.
