Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, Grande Prairie MLA Tracey Allard and Health Minister Tyler Shandro will be in attendance during a ceremony Friday June 26, starting at 1:15pm

Construction crews will have over keys to Alberta Health Services during a ceremony Friday afternoon in Grande Prairie.

The end of construction will give way to the commissioning process to get the hospital ready for patients.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro says the commissioning work that comes next is a critical process that includes cleaning, installation, and testing of equipment.

With 172 beds, the new regional hospital and cancer centre will help more northern patients receive specialized and complex care, closer to home and with shorter wait times.

60 photos by professional and amateur photographers have also been picked to decorate the inside of the new hospital.

Nearly 1,300 images were submitted during an Alberta Health Services photo campaign last year.  The photos include farmer’s fields, wildlife, flowers, trees, the northern lights, and places like Kakwa Falls.

The images can be seen here.
