Women are compassionate, caring and they understand what it’s like to balance business and family and work and family, that’s why they make such good leaders, said Devon Fiddler, owner of SheNative, maker of leather handbags and apparel.
But all leaders have to carve into family time to be successful, she said.
“It can be very chaotic.”
There is a lot of guilt associated with taking on leadership roles when it impacts family and raising children.
And there is also a struggle to find time for yourself.
“Good things are happening,” she said, and Fiddler would like to see Indigenous leaders take on roles in non-Indigenous organizations, to educate non-Indigenous peoples and share Indigenous perspectives, teaching Indigenous history, providing information on colonization, and residential schools.
