Windspeaker Radio spoke with Blackfoot Artist, Ryan Jason Allen Willert about his work
Artist Ryan Jason Allen Willert is from Siksika Nation.
He is also a rising star in the art world, where he uses his art to inspire
Ryan has been commissioned to design art installations and murals for organizations, schools and cities all over Alberta. Many of his murals have been Sundance-themed, a practice close to his heart.
Ryan was a contributing artist for Calgary's 2016 2nd best selling non-fiction book (Colouring it Forward: Discover Blackfoot Nation Art and Wisdom).
Although he was brought up in a non-native community, he has since reconnected with his Blackfoot roots.
The 35 year old learned the art of black ink drawing from his late father Richard (Dicky) Stimson, another well-known Siksika Nation artist.
His latest project, is his collaboration with Roland Rollinmud, the artists have joined forces, along with a team of grade 12 students at Morley Community School, to depict a scene and memory from Roland's childhood.
