9:30am - 12:00pm
Municipal Jubilee Building, Fort McMurray

All are invited to join a Community Gathering and Walk to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, in Fort McMurray

The Athabasca Tribal Council is partnering with other Indigenous governments and communities, along with the RMWB, The Centre of Hope, The Nistawoyou Association Friendship Centre, The RRC, RCMP, and the Wood Buffalo Wellness Society to host a Community Gathering and Walk for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Taking place on September 30, the day will start around 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and address in front of the Municipal Jubilee building before commencing to MacDonald Island where there will be refreshments.

Chief Allan Adam, President of the Athabasca Tribal Council, says that when communities and organizations come together to support and honour survivors, it makes everyone stronger.

“The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation makes space for people to learn and reflect upon the burden of truth. The burden is no longer held solely by the child survivors. In understanding the truth, we move together as a community toward reconciliation and healing for all.”
