600 workers needed for federal election polls in Red Deer ridings

“Our electoral system is quite complex, and the integrity of the vote is very important"

Elections Canada needs 600 workers for important roles at Red Deer-area polling stations over the coming days leading up to the Sept. 20 federal election.

Positions need to be filled ASAP for the ridings of Red Deer-Mountain View and Red Deer-Lacombe, though a spokesperson says they are prepared for advanced polling to start on Sept. 10.

Those who are hired are not federal workers and need not be vaccinated, though masks are required at all times. You also must be a Canadian citizen and at least 16-years-old to apply.

Pay ranges from $17.72 to $23.44/hour, with an additional $54.65 paid for attending a training session. Overtime is also paid at a rate of 1.5x each extra hour worked.

Positions include front line poll workers, information officers and deputy returning officers, with work days being Sept. 10-13 (advanced voting) and Sept. 20 (election day).
