Alberta continues to see a rise in second doses

Since expanding second dose availability on Friday, over 250,000 Albertans have booked their final shot.

Alberta reported 100 cases of COVID-19 Sunday as the number of people receiving their second dose outpaced the amount of first vaccines given out.

In a limited update released on the provinces webpage, nearly 5,000 tests were completed to give Alberta a positivity rate of 1.8 percent.

Of the 100 cases reported on Sunday, 11 were previously suspected cases from previous days that had since been confirmed as positive COVID-19 test results.

Second dose uptake continues to outpace the first dose as more than 45,200 second doses were administered as of Saturday and only 6,675 first doses.

Approximately 70.6 per cent of those aged 12 and over in Alberta have received their first dose while 28.6 per cent of the population eligible for vaccination is fully immunized.
