Amazon Announces Renewable Energy Project in Alberta

An 80 mega watt solar project is being planned in the County of Newell, east of Calgary

 

 

Amazon has announced nine new utility-scale wind and solar energy projects in U.S., Spain, Sweden, and the UK. and its first renewable energy investment in Canada.

Amazon will invest in an 80 MW solar project in the County of Newell, which will produce over 195,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy to the grid, or enough energy to power more than 18,000 Canadian homes for a year, once complete.

According to the news release, the renewable energy from these projects including first solar project paired with energy storage in California and largest corporate renewable energy project in the UK will help Amazon meet its commitment to produce clean energy equivalent to the electricity used by all consumer Echo devices.

The release also says Amazon is on a path to power 100% of its activities with renewable energy by 2025.
