Bear Clan Group in Edmonton upset with treatment by mall security

Edmonton City Centre said it is currently investigating the event.

A community based group is now showing displeasure after it's efforts to support the city's most  vulnerable people was stopped.

The Bear Clan Patrol Edmonton Beaver Hills House hands out food and water outside City Centre Mall and has been doing so for more than a year. The group buys coffee from a store inside the mall.

Judith Gale is with Bear Clan and says the group was waiting in the side entrance of the mall on December 31st, she said many guards walked by without saying a word. However one guard said "We were not allowed to serve food and water to our brothers and sisters inside City Centre Mall.”

Here's what Gale had to say on the matter:

Gale was banned for one year however the security company involved has committed to taking part in a volunteer shift with Bear Clan Patrol.

She has had her ban lifted and will be back at the mall Wednesday morning to hand out coffee for the less fortunate.
