Cash fare for Edmonton transit set to rise to $4

The proposed 2022 operating budget recommends a cost increase for most transit fare options

Edmonton’s transit cash fare is set to spike to $4 in February.

The proposed 2022 operating budget currently in front of city council recommends a cost increase for most transit fare options, including monthly passes and tickets. The cash fare will see the biggest percentage jump, rising to $4 from $3.50.

The budget also proposes increases to most of the city’s permits and user fees as well as for recreation centres and attractions, except admission to the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Fees to attend the zoo are going down across the board, with children’s admission dropping by 13.5 per cent.

It also calls for the city’s police budget to receive an $11.9 Million increase.

Council is expected to continue discussing the 2022 budget on Wednesday.
