Chuckwagons make a return to Westerner Park in Red Deer

“Everyone loves it the chucks, and that's great. We wanted to make sure that we give some more value for people and make it more of an event”


Westerner Days in Red Deer may be cancelled but you can look forward to checking out the chuckwagons this month.

Wagons at Westerner will take place from July 23rd to 25th. The Alberta Professional Chuckwagon and Chariot Association (APCCA) will be performing their sanctioned Twist the 8 Tour.  

The event is anticipated to be exclusive to this year. It will also feature food trucks, and live local entertainment. 24 chariot races will also be in action prior to the wagons.

On Saturday July 24, those attending will also be able to check out the Calgary Stampede’s Fireworks Spectacular show from the Westerner Park grounds.

  • Chariots: 5:30 pm Fri & Sat, 1:00 pm Sun
  • Agri-Trade Stars of Tomorrow: 6:15 pm Fri & Sat, 1:45 pm Sun
  • Chuckwagons: 6:30 pm Fri & Sat, 2:00 pm Sun
  • Live Music: after the races
  • Fireworks: 10:45 pm Fri & Sat


North American Pony Chuckwagon Championships

Westerner officials say the Alberta Professional Chuckwagon & Chariot Association (APCCA) has sanctioned the Twist the 8 Tour. There will be three chuckwagons competing over three days for the Championship and there will also be 24 chariots racing prior to the wagons.

The Agri-Trade Stars of Tomorrow (sons & daughters of competitors) will showcase their skills with their mini chuckwagons and chariots just prior to the chuckwagons.

$10 – per person, kids 10 and under are free.

Tickets will be available at the gates. However, Westerner officials encourage you to purchase in advance as there is only a limited number available.
