Cold Lake Emergency Department without physician coverage

"This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time. If coverage is found, this disruption may be cancelled,"

The Cold Lake Healthcare Centre Emergency Department will temporarily be without physician coverage starting tonight at 11 p.m. until Oct 6 at 7 a.m.

In a statement, AHS said the ED was also temporarily without physician coverage on October 3 from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m.

"Nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED providing triage and assessments, and referrals for patients to alternate EDs in surrounding communities as needed."

Patients are told to call 911 if they have a medical emergency and EMS will be available to the community but will be re-routed to other healthcare centres in the area.

Residents are also reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions.
