One person is dead, another injured after St. Paul RCMP shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate this case

Alberta's police watchdog is now investigating after one person was shot and killed with another injured after RCMP officers opened fire during an attempted arrest on Monday.

Shortly after 7:30am, St. Paul RCMP attempted to arrest two people who were suspects in a few ongoing police investigations. The suspects were thought to be on the Saddle Lake Cree Nation.

Mounties found the suspects in the area of the nation and “an interaction occurred,” police said in a Monday news release, leading to a confrontation between police and the suspects when the officers fired their service weapons.

Following the incident one suspect passed away while the second suspect was transported to hospital in critical condition.
