RMWB Approves funding for Two Signs Acknowledging Treaty 8, Unceded Metis Territory

The new signs won’t be built until the RMWB receives feedback from Indigenous communities on the exact wording

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is allocating funds to create new signs along Highways 63 and 881.

$34,000 for signs has been approved acknowledging how the region is in Treaty 8 and Unceded Métis Territory.  Nearly $10,000 will be used on land surveying, land acquisition, as well as regulatory and environmental work for each location.

One sign would be installed on Highway 881 South, after the Highway 63 turnoff. A second sign would be erected along Highway 63 North as you enter Fort McMurray
