Some Edmonton Schools dealing with a "respiratory illness outbreak"

An outbreak is declared by Alberta Health Services when schools report at least 10 per cent of students are sick

In a letter to parents earlier this week, Edmonton Public Schools said that more than 6,800 students were home sick with a respiratory illness.

Four Edmonton Catholic Schools were experiencing outbreaks, but ECSD did not provide which schools they were.

In the letter, EPSB suggested that “If your kid is sick, keep them home. It’s just no longer acceptable, and it hasn’t been for a couple of years now, to send your child to school if they’re sick.”

The Edmonton Public School Board had 17 schools listed in outbreak status, including:

  • Sweetgrass
  • Keheewin
  • Beacon Heights
  • Oliver
  • Virginia Park
  • Ekota
  • Belmont
  • King Edward
  • Clara Tyner
  • Elmwood
  • McKee
  • Duggan
  • Kirkness
  • York
  • James Gibbons
  • Belmead
  • Forest Heights
