Westerner Days Parade cancelled in Red Deer, modified Fair to proceed

“With the amount of planning and lead time required for an event like our parade, it just didn’t prove viable this year"

Despite Alberta re-opening on July 1, Organizers of the annual Fair & Exposition say this year's parade will not happen in Red Deer.

The parade typically welcomes 125 participants, over 30,000 people and 35 dedicated volunteers.

Westerner Park says the province’s Open for Summer – Stage 3 announcement is exciting news for the ability to return to in-person events and host the Westerner Days Fair & Exposition. They will be hosting a modified Westerner Day this summer with full details on what that will look like to be announced on Monday, June 28.

“This was a difficult decision as the parade is such an important part of our community’s culture. But, with the amount of planning and lead time required for an event like our parade, it just didn’t prove viable this year”

Mike Olesen, Chief Executive Officer, Westerner Park
