World Professional Chuckwagon Association returns to racing in 2022

The WPCA Pro Tour will consist of 10 stops and 44 race days in 2022. Returning to the tour after an absence since 2019 will be Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat and Century Down

In what will be a full season of racing since 2019, the 2022 chuckwagon racing season will begin at the Grande Prairie Stompede, as one of chuckwagon racings premiere events returns to the WPCA Pro Tour after 2 years of cancellations due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The WPCA races during the 2022 Grande Prairie Stompede will run May 25th - May 29th at Evergreen Park. The Grande Prairie Stompede, won by reigning World Champion, Obrey Motowylo in 2015 and 2017, is rumored to also be returning with another championship format and a Dash for Cash.

2021 was a rebuilding year for the WPCA after 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19. The shortened schedule featured record crowds in High River and Strathmore along with a Dash for Cash in 5 of the 7 race locations.

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino will host the World Finals with another championship format and like Century Downs and Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat will return to the Tour.

After a successful show in 2021 to launch the season, Dewberry returns to the schedule with a change in dates along with Bonnyville.

A historical event will take place in Dawson Creek August 10th through August 14th with the Dawson Creek Exhibition and Stampede celebrating their 100th Anniversary.

In 2021, High River hosted the 6 day Battle of the Foothills with 5 of the 6 days sold out. Due to the dates on the 2022 Calendar a 6 day event was not possible, however, there are hints that the 6 day championship format may return in 2023.

The move to a full tour in 2022 is expected to see the return of veteran drivers including the likes of Jason Glass, Troy Dorchester and Mark Sutherland along with 2nd year drivers Tuff Dreger, Dean Dreger and Derek Aebly who proved in 2021 that they belong on chuckwagon racings premiere tour.

Specific announcements for each show will be made at a later date as more information becomes available.
